After 8 years of exploring Hip Hop and Dancehall, she fell in love with Jazz. Kanini sees Jazz as an evolving contemporary artform which shares values and qualities with many African diasporic dance styles of today. She is passionate about bringing Jazz, Street Dance and Afro dance communities together, which is also reflected in how she moves. She draws inspiration from OG’s as much as contemporary dance world, which makes her style unique and fresh.

SABOU (SABRINE EWIES)

Sabou is a dance coach and choreographer, specialising in street Afro dances and is currently based in Amsterdam. She runs Sabou Dance Academy, giving regular classes, coaching dancers and running dance camps in Ghana. Sabou fell in love with street Afro dances in Finland (of all places!), where she developed an obsession for Azonto! Ever since, she has been taking as any classes and workshops as she can, to deepen her knowledge about the music and understand the meaning of the dance with each and every step, foundation, and technique. This journey has helped her overcome many life challenges and build greater confidence in herself, her values, and most importantly, her relationship with her body.
